How it started
A meeting was called in March 1937 to discuss plans to celebrate the Coronation of King George VI & Queen Elizabeth to be held in May 1937. It was suggested that a new hall be built to replace the old one which burnt down in 1933.
Mrs Sansome from the Red Hart Inn donated a quarter of an acre of land. Mrs Milner, a former resident of Bag-End Farm, gave £55 in memory of her brother who died, aged 3 years. Many parishioners gave donations and lots of fund raising was undertaken. The hall was built at a cost of £233.
Unfortunately there appears to be no records until 1974 but it is understood that several donations were made with the proviso that both a women’s and a men’s organisation were set up. Kington with Dormston WI was started in November 1937 and continues today. The WI set up the Senior’s Club in 1965.
The men’s club continued until the start of the war, but a table tennis club continues.

What we get up to ...
Crafts
From card making, to beading, pottery, acrylic painting and everything in between. To celebrate our 75th Anniversary, the building of the Village Hall and the 60th Anniversary of her Majesty’s succession to the throne a needlework collage of local properties and buildings were worked and put together on a plaque and presented to the Village Hall.
Skittles
We play our matches each winter in the Worcestershire WI area. We have even been known to get to the final!

Walking
In 2005 the WI challenged everyone to get fitter by walking and as a result the 'Trotters' was formed. From those beginnings, we walk twice a month from April through to August on a Thursday evening. We also do a 'New Year' walk, a treasure hunt walk, enjoy a skittles evening once or twice a year and a pre-Christmas meal. Our 'men folk' also join us.
Outings
We do anything from theatre visits, cream teas, gardens, museums, river cruises, Garter Ceremony at Windsor, Chelsea Royal Hospital, Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace where of course we took tea on the terrace!
